Solar hot water heaters can be used to provide domestic hot water (DHW) and heat for home heating.  DHW is used for things such as showers, laundry and dishwashing. DHW is one of the major uses of energy in a home. Often DHW heaters use electric power to heat the water which is very expensive-however they are very convenient to install since they do not require the venting of combustion products that natural gas, oil or propane heaters do.
